Lawsuit filed against makers of Krazy Glue in Detroit federal court

Class action suit claims Elmers Products falsely advertised Krazy Glue's uses

DETROIT – Two people have filed a lawsuit in Detroit federal court against the makers of Krazy Glue, claiming the multi-purpose glue won't stick to wood like the front of the bottle claims it will.

The class action suit claims Elmers Products, based in Ohio, is making a false advertising claim.

The issues: the front of the bottle says the glue will work on wood surfaces. However, the back of the bottle reads, "not for wood."

The attorney representing the plaintiffs says cost is not the issue. Rather, the company should not be allowed to make a claim that is untrue.

"When you get down to it, if it doesn't bond within the parameters of what they tell you to do and it says on the front it bonds and on the back it doesn't, to me that's consumer confusion and it's obvious," said attorney Carl Becker.

The company has no comment, but on the court filing says the problem has been fixed and the words "wood" and "leather" have been removed from all new packaging.

Becker says consumers have grown use to products that don't work but they shouldn't accept it so easily.

"There's so many products out there and so many things that don't work the way they are represented and warranted that we just sort of role with the punches and every once in a while someone says, 'How can you do this to me.' It may not be the biggest number in the world but I am entitled to get what I was expected to get," he said.
