In Detroit, we have an abundance of space and vacant land. One of the challenges in moving the city forward is how to utilize the space in a positive way.

But a group of volunteers have created a new option: the Detroit Dog Park!

They teamed up with PetSmart to open the first official dog park in the city. It's called PetSmart Pup's Detroit Dog Park and is located at 17th and Rose in Corktown, right next to Michigan Central Station.

It's open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m - and is run entirely by volunteers.

While the park is open now, there is an official grand opening on May 17 at 10 a.m.
