Livonia police: Man accused of stealing from cemetery

Police say Essa Michael Ghanem broke into area of mausoleum, took jewelry

LIVONIA, Mich. – Livonia police said fingerprints led them to a suspect who is accused of stealing jewelry from a cemetery over the weekend.

Police said the personal mementos were stolen from one of the mausoleums at Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park on 8 Mile Road.

Police said the thief had broken through some glass to get the jewelry.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Essa Michael Ghanem, of Westland, is facing larceny, malicious destruction of property and possession of heroin charges.

His bond was set at $500,000.

His next court date is April 24.
