Local 4 Airs Special, Primetime Newsmagazine: First Block

DSO assistant conductor, taxi driver, photographer featured in debut episode

DETROIT – In the debut episode of First Block, you'll meet a musical prodigy: the 26-year-old assistant conductor of the DSO, working with Maestro Leonard Slatkin; a local woman who traded in a high profile writing career for one behind the wheel of a taxi; and a New York fashion photographer who came back home to Detroit to write a book featuring some of the world's biggest celebrities, who are from Detroit.

The show's title refers to the "first block" of a TV show – the segment you see before the first commercial break, where the most important stories go. Local 4's creative programming team decided to make each and every story worthy of being a first block story, and that's how the concept was born. Extraordinary stories told by Local 4 anchors and reporters, in a provocative and compelling new way.
