Local 4 honored with MAB Awards

WDIV-TV Local 4 News Honored With MAB Awards For Best Newscast, Weather Coverage, and Community Involvement

DETROIT – Local 4 is proud to be honored for broadcasting excellence in the categories of Newscast, Weathercast and Community Involvement by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB).

Local 4 News won the MAB Market 1 awards, for Best Newscast for Local 4 News at 5's day of triple team coverage when 19 year old Tucker Cipriano allegedly murdered his father in Farmington Hills. Local 4 Director of Meteorology, Chuck Gaidica took top honors for his Weather Storm Watch coverage. And Best in Community Involvement went to Local 4 for a compilation of community efforts including fighting against dangerous K2 use in our communities, a special speed week in neighborhoods calling attention to speed violators who put kids at risk, and for initiating local support to provide help for Hurricane Sandy victims during their time of urgent need.

Local 4 News was also recognized with Merit Awards for Breaking News during the Local 4 News at 11 coverage of the arrest of Bob Bashara, as well as for Karen Drew's compelling Investigative report about a lottery winner who was still receiving state welfare after her windfall, and for Dateline Detroit, in the news special category, for retrospective coverage of developments in Detroit Mayor Kilpatrick's on going federal legal woes.

Local 4 News is currently the #1 newscast at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. in Nielsen ratings for the Detroit television market, and Local 4 News at 11 p.m. is the highest-rated
