Pontiac man drowns in Lake Galloway, authorities say

PONTIAC, Mich. – A 28-year-old man drowned in a Pontiac lake while trying to retrieve his kayak, which had floated away from the dock, police said.

Deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and Waterford Township firefighters were called at 4:18 p.m. Friday (June 11) to the 1400 block of North Perry Street, according to authorities.

A resident told police that a 28-year-old Pontiac man had gone into Lake Galloway to retrieve his kayak, which floated away from the dock, police said.

The man struggled in the water about 50 feet from shore before going under, according to his friend. He did not resurface, authorities said.

A member of the Oakland County Dive Team recovered the man in about 10 feet of water, officials said. Paramedics took the man to McLaren Oakland Hospital, where he was temporarily revived, but later died, according to officials.
