Each year, thousands of metro Detroit residents attend the Expo and receive essential and potentially life-saving health screenings. Screenings include those for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, glucose, dental, obesity and Body Mass Index, breast cancer, HIV, AIDS and vision.

In addition, Wayne County's largest health expo will feature vendors from a number of area health providers and organizations.

The day's activities include:

-- Presentations on fitness, nutrition and staying healthy

-- Where to receive mental health services

-- Details concerning Wayne County's ‘Health on Wheels' mobile health providers, units and schedule

-- Information on Wayne County's Healthy NEW ME (Nutrition, Exercise, Weight Management Effort) program

-- Healthy cooking demonstrations and recipes

-- How eligible family members and businesses can obtain or enroll in free or low-cost health coverage and insurance programs, and

-- Important developments about the Affordable Care Act.

Access to affordable health care coverage is among the most challenging issues faced by government, business and individuals. Approximately 350,000 residents of Wayne County's 43 communities are currently without health coverage.

Services will be offered by Wayne County, the City of Detroit, State of Michigan and other providers. Attendees should bring Picture I.D., social security card and proof of income as certain programs require these documents.
