Daughter Of Convicted Mich. Man Speaks

DETROIT – A woman whose father killed her mother and is a suspect in the disappearance of another woman has spoken out about their relationship.

Roger Sweet is behind bars serving time for the death of his first wife and is being investigated by officials into the disappearance of this second wife, Lizzie Mae Collier-Sweet.

"I hate him for what he's done," said Sweet's daughter, Cynthia Walker. "He's destroyed so many people's lives, including mine."

Walker said she hopes her father will do the right thing and tell Collier-Sweet's family what happened to her.

"Her family deserves to know for closure, she was a good person," she said.

Two years ago on Jan. 8, Collier-Sweet vanished, the same day her home was destroyed in a fire that was ruled arson by investigators.

Police said they found her dentures in the rubble along with a hammer Collier-Sweet had told people she kept under the couch to use as protection against her husband.

Walker said she's visited her father three times in jail to get answers.

"I've just asked him point-blank, 'What's happened with her? What did you do with her?'"

Walker said Sweet denies doing anything.

Collier-Sweet's disappearance caused police to reopen the investigation into Sweet's first wife, Walker's mother, Marlene.

In 1990, her death was ruled an accident. But Sweet pleaded guilty to killing her last year.

Officials said Sweet is in ill health and may not survive his prison term for second-degree murder.

"I don't believe my father, because after 17 years of thinking that my mom died of a brain aneurism, I find out that he's actually killed her," Walker said. "So if he can kill my mother, he can kill her, Liz, too."

Brownstown police are offering a $5,000 reward for information in Collier-Sweet's case.
