DETROIT -after Mayor Dave Bing imposed cuts to union pay and benefits.
The officers held an emergency meeting to discuss the forced 10 percent pay cut to all Detroit city workers, work rule changes and changes to health car that increase employee contributions.
"They're looking at dollars and no damn sense," said Detroit Police Officers Association President Joe Duncan. "This makes no sense at all."
The cuts are meant to save the city in the midst of a financial crisis.
"It's just absolutely a slap in the face," said Derrick Jones, a 16-year veteran of the force.
Emotions ran high as officers plotted their next course of action with union leaders. An appeal to reverse Bing's actions, which take effect immediately, is now in motion.
"It is imperative that the people of the city of Detroit stop accepting less, and say they want more," said Jones.
