5 reasons to visit Detroit

Travel site Fodors.com suggest good things worth seeing in Detroit

DETROITThe travel review site Fodors.com listed a few things worth seeing in Detroit. The guide made an effort to look past the easy images of blight in Detroit and tell the world, if you haven't noticed, this is a great time to visit.

"The beleaguered city doesn't get much love. But it's time to replace the images of crime and strife with one of the grassroots spirit sweeping the city," writes the online travel site of Detroit.

Fodor's cites five areas worth a look: art, history, sports, food, and the unique Motown flavor.

You don't have to look hard to find that flavor in Detroit. Even on a rainy day Campus Martius rocks at lunchtime and word if definitely getting around.

The art scene in Detroit goes way beyond the DIA, although the Diego Rivera fresco and countless master pieces inside speak for themself.

Fodors notes the Heidelberg Project is also not to be missed when visiting the city's art scene.

For a flash back in time, Fodors recommends that visitors should wonder through one of several museums in the city, including the Detroit Historical Museum, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village.

But those who live here already know you don't have to look hard to find good things going on in The D.
