Crime Stoppers offering $2,500 to find gunman who killed Navy officer in Detroit

Naval Officer Terrence Hill Jr. killed on Manor Street, off 7 Mile Road in Detroit

DETROIT – A 24-year-old man who was on leave from the US Navy was killed early Friday morning in a shooting on Detroit's west side, Local 4 has learned.

Police said Officer Terrence Hill Jr. and a 21-year-old woman were in a Ford pickup truck just before 2 a.m. on Manor Street at 7 Mile Road when a gunman approached and demanded money.

The gunman forced Hill out of the truck and shot him in the chest.

The woman was not hurt.

Hill served in Waukegan, Illinois as an artillery instructor.

He graduated from the Detroit School of Arts in 2006.

"The Detroit Police Department Homicide Section has reached out to Crime Stoppers of Michigan to solicit information from the community that will solve this homicide", said Inspector Dwane Blackmon, Detroit Police Department Homicide Section.

James Stein lives in the area and said he woke up to the sound of a gunshot.

"I heard a woman hollering, 'Help, help,'" he said. "I've got kids that walk these streets. I was worried about my kids' safety," he said.

The description of the gunman released by police is: A black male in his 20s, 5 feet 7 inches tall. He was wearing a black knitted cap and black jacket.

He was also wearing a black skull cap with a white line on it.

Hill also has a 21-year-old brother and step-brother who serve in the United States Army.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to an arrest.
