DETROIT - Detroit arts groups are getting a share of nearly $20 million in support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
The funding being announced Tuesday is part of the Knight Arts Challenge, which aims to engage and enrich Detroit through the arts by supporting a variety of projects and organizations.
In all, the Knight Foundation is announcing $19.25 million in support. That includes $10.25 million to seven institutions including the Detroit Institute of Arts.
In March, the Knight Foundation plans to launch a community-wide contest to find and fund the best arts ideas. Individual artists, organizations and businesses will be eligible for funding. Over three years, the Knight Foundation is committing $9 million to help fund those art ideas.
