Detroit Department of Transportation puts brakes on man's bus stop benches

DDOT says it doesn't approve of benches made from old homes

DETROIT – He is a young man building bus stop benches out of wood from knocked down homes in Detroit.

With the help of students from Detroit Enterprise Academy, Charles Molnar created the bench for the stop on Jefferson Avenue at Lillibridge Street.

However, the Detroit Department of Transportation is putting the brakes on the community seating project. DDOT says the bench was not approved and plans to remove it.

Many of the city's bus stops don't have seating. Molnar's benches are equipped with shelves to keep reading material for riders as they wait for the bus.
