As protests go, it was peaceful and eclectic.
As the emergency financial manager announcement was made by Gov. Rick Snyder Thursday afternoon inside Detroit's Cadillac Place about 50 protesters voiced opposition outside. The protesters were marching and carrying signs around the state offices.

Michigan State Police were not expecting a large group but troopers were prepared in case there was a massive turnout. Police mostly were concerned about traffic delays.
"We need to stop up (I-94), John Lodge (Freeway), 75," said Pastor Thomas Jackson, who was among the protesters.
State police were not having it.
"There is plenty of room to protest and state your case on what you feel about an emergency manager ... when you start going on the freeway where cars are traveling 70-plus miles per hour and you suddenly stop, somebody's eventually going to get killed," said MSP Lt. Michael Shaw.
