Detroit family tied up, locked in basement during break-in

Father says men stormed house, attacked him with crowbar

DETROIT – A Detroit family is reeling from a violent break-in that left them tied up and locked in a basement as men ransacked their home.

The scene unfolded on Manning Street, near Kelly and 7 Mile roads on the city's east side.

A husband and wife and their 11-year-old son were bound with extension cords and locked in their basement just after 3 a.m.

In an interview with Local 4, the husband said he was attacked with a crowbar and pistol-whipped.

The men burglarized the home, stealing several electronics.

The husband said he was able to eventually break free.

"I kicked the basement door open and came up and everybody was gone. I called police from there," the husband said.

His wife and son were not seriously hurt.

Police said they are investigating and looking for up to four men who could have been involved. But they have not released any descriptions of the attackers.
