Detroit mayor seeks to fill 350 open positions

Detroit job fair is next weekend at Cobo Center

DETROIT – Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan hired a new human resources director and said let's get moving.

They will get moving at month's end. A city job fair will be held Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1 at Cobo Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Here is the breakdown of the 350 open positions:

-- 150 police officers are needed
-- 70 EMTs
-- 40 bus drivers
-- 40 licensed general auto mechanics

Those jobs cover most of the open positions. There are other big job openings such as a public works general manager, senior and principal accountants and even a tree artisan.

Duggan said the pay and healthcare benefits are known. However, because of the city's bankruptcy, the pension benefits are not known just yet.

"If you're the kind of person that there's something in your heart that you want to help people, public service, I believe, is a good career," he said.
