Detroit police: Elderly woman roughed up during home invasion

Police say invader told woman he had package for her, barged in when she opened door

DETROIT – Detroit police are searching for a man who forced his was into the home of an 89-year-old woman, roughed her up and robbed her.

It happened at a home on Woodmont Avenue near Tireman Avenue and the Southfield Freeway in west Detroit. Police say a man went to the woman's door, told her he had a package for her and when she unlocked the door he rushed in.

He knocked the woman down and took her TV. It's not known if she was injured. One of her neighbors is outraged.

"Whoever did this ... why would you hurt an older person? I feel that's so wrong," said neighbor Regina Thomas.

Thomas said the 89-year-old woman recently returned to the house after doing some yard work and found two men inside. However, those men ran away before she could call police.
