Detroit Police Officer hospitalized after hit & run accident

Black ice blamed for officer injured in accident

DETROIT – A Detroit Police Officer had to be rushed to the hospital after being hit by a vehicle on Davison near Oakman on the city's west side, early Monday morning.

Sources tell Local 4 that the officer was on the passenger side of his squad car investigating an accident when another vehicle sideswiped his patrol car hitting him. He is in temporary serious condition at a local hospital.

Police have closed the westbound lanes of the Davison while they do the accident investigation.

It appears as though black ice may have contributed in the accident and police have asked for salt trucks to come and salt the area.

Local 4 has a crew at the scene gathering more information.
