The Detroit Municipal Parking Department (MPD) recommends the following facilities for the America's Thanksgiving Parade and the Fifth Third Turkey Trot on Thursday, Nov. 22.

                  

In addition, the following facilities are recommended for the Detroit Lions' game:

 *Closes 2 hours after Lions' game ends

Park & Ride Shuttles:

Park your vehicles and ride a Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) shuttle bus to America's Thanksgiving Parade on Thursday, Nov. 24, starting at 7 a.m.  Riding a DDOT shuttle will ease the stress of heavy traffic delays and eliminate costly parking fees.

The bus fare is:

  • Adult: $2 each way
  • Youth: (18 years and under) - $1 each way
  • Children: (under age 5 or 44 inches tall) - Free (limit three, accompanied by an adult)

Please note that discount fares do not apply to shuttle service, and bus drivers cannot provide change. Therefore, riders must insert the exact amount in the farebox.

Individuals can board the shuttles at any of the three Park and Ride locations, where parking is free.

  • Eastland Mall (Beaconsfield entrance) - Park on the lot between Sections 5 & 8; shuttle arrives downtown at Library between Gratiot and Grand River.
  • Fairlane Mall – Park south of DDOT's loading zone; shuttle arrives downtown at Adams Street at Clifford.
  • Northland Mall (Greenfield entrance) - Park at Lot G; shuttle arrives downtown at Adams Street at Clifford.

Staff will be present at the mall locations to provide assistance as needed. The shuttles will run approximately every 15 minutes at all mall locations as follows:

  • Start Time:   7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Return Time: 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

DDOT Services:

DDOT is providing extra bus service on Grand River, Gratiot and Woodward routes. However as a result of the Thanksgiving Day Parade, bus passengers can expect delays due to street closures onWoodward Avenue, between Warren and Jefferson Avenues, beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 23. Several DDOT routes will be affected by the street closures on Wednesday and Thursday. Please note that DDOT coaches will be allowed to proceed through the road closures until total closure takes place on Thursday, Nov. 24.

On Thursday, Nov. 24 between 7:30 and 10 a.m., during the Turkey Trot only, reroutes will occur on the following routes:

#19 Fort (E. of West Grand Blvd.)

Inbound: Route will travel on W. Grand Blvd. to W. Vernor, to Fisher, to Grand River

Outbound: Route will travel from the Rosa Parks Transit Center (RPTC) to Grand River, to Fisher, to 14th, to W. Vernor, to W. Grand Blvd. (north of Fort)

#27 Joy (South of Michigan Ave.)

Inbound: Route will travel on W. Vernor, to Fisher Fwy., to Grand River

Outbound: Route will travel from the RPTC to Grand River, to Fisher, to 14th, to Vernor, to W. Grand Blvd.

#29 Linwood (South of Grand River)

Inbound: Route will travel along Grand River east of Trumbull

Outbound: Route will travel from the RPTC to Grand River east of Trumbull

#37 Michigan (East of 14th)

Inbound: Route will travel on Fisher Fwy. to Grand River

Outbound: Route will travel from the RPTC to Grand River, to Fisher Fwy., to 14th, to Michigan.

Additionally, all rerouted buses will travel to the Rosa Parks Transit Center. Thursday's reroutes (during the Parade) include the following:

Outbound travel from the RPTC will follow a reverse traffic pattern that is similar to the inbound reroute. Passengers may board coaches at any bus stop along the reroute.
