Mother calls 911 from locked closet during invasion at Detroit home

Detroit police say gunmen continued crime spree after fleeing home where mother called 911 from upstairs closet

DETROIT – It was a scary situation for a mother and baby at a home on Leach Street near Jefferson Avenue in Detroit.

The mother found herself locked in her closet upstairs. Her 2-year-old child was in her hands as she talked to police on the phone. She told dispatchers there were two gunmen in her home.

Police said the suspects broke through a window to get inside. Both men were carrying guns. The mother saw them, grabbed the child and ran upstairs where she locked herself in the closet and called 911.

Police arrived while the gunmen were still inside, until they saw the officers. The gunmen, suspected to be about 15 and 16 years old, made a run for it. Police say they managed to get away and did not stop their crime spree.

Police say they attempted to rob someone on the street. Detective say the teens got a away with a white Toyota Camry.

Police now are on an eager hunt to get the teens off the streets before they strike again.
