New lawsuit filed in Turkia Mullin saga

DETROIT – Did the Wayne County Airport Authority board intentionally break the law in a conspiracy to get Turkia Mullin the airport CEO job?

That is the allegation in a new lawsuit filed Tuesday afternoon in Wayne County.

The lawsuit alleges members of the Airport Authority board, Mullin and the search firm "Trust in Us" planned a sham search for a new CEO knowing all along Mullin would get the job.

"Their own emails show that this was done without the knowledge and authority of the full board," said Wayne County activist Robert Davis.

Davis filed the lawsuit because he said the illegal process voids out the contract and will keep Mullin from collecting big bucks for being fired.

"The significance of this case is we are trying to prevent the Airport Authority from having to pay her $750,000," he said.

Mullins attorney declined to comment because he had not yet seen the filing.

In the past he told the Local 4 Defenders that he is confident her contract is legal and binding.

A Wayne County Circuit judge has last week ruled that the Airport Authority had violated Michigan's Open Meetings Act during Mullin's hiring.

Judge Robert Colombo said he had found multiple violations of the state act and issued an injunction against future violations.
