Police: Barricaded gunman on Detroit's east side

The suspect threatened his girlfriend then barricaded himself in the home

DETROIT – Around 4:30am Detroit Police responded to a domestic dispute at a home Audobon Street on Detroit's east side. Police tell Local 4 a man in his 50's threatened his girlfriend with a handgun, then barricaded himself inside of the home for over an hour.

The girlfriend was able to make it out of the house safely and remained with police on site while the SWAT team tried to talk the suspect out of the home. The hostage negoitators maintained a line of communication with the barricaded gunman for nearly an hour before he surrendered. Lt. Elvin Barren tells Local 4 they called one of the suspects friends to scene to help talk the man out of the house.

The man in his 50's is now in police custody, no shots were fired, no one was hurt.

The boyfriend and girlfriend resided together.
