DETROIT - Power is slowly coming back on in parts of downtown and Midtown Detroit.
Wednesday's heat combined with a cable failure and maintenance caused a Public Lighting Department system overload. Power was knocked out to the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, Wayne State University's campus, the Detroit Institute of Arts and several other buildings.
Wayne State will be open today. Students, faculty and employees should report to campus for all scheduled classes and events.
The Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, which was partially shut down due to the outage, will be entirely open on Friday, too.
The city hopes to have everything fully restored by Friday.
