DETROIT - A Detriot man is dead after being shot and killed by a security guard on the city's west side.
The shooting happened early Monday morning at the Freedom Place apartments on West Warren and the Lodge.
Police sources said the 58-year-old man was a resident at the apartments but came home intoxicated and began verbally threatening the security guard.
The two got in a heated confrontation before the man allegedly got physical with the guard -- which led to the security guard shooting the man in the chest. The man died as a result of his injuries.
A woman, who declined to give Local 4 her name, said it was her husband who was shot.
"I want justice, they didn't have to do him like that," she said. "The security, they shot him like a dog. He didn't do nothing to nobody."
Both the Detroit police and the Prudential Security company are investigating the incident.
Resident Winfield Jackson said he's tired of the gun violence -- his own son was shot outside the apartment complex a day before.
"To wake up with that is sad. You can't go to sleep and wake up without anything severe happening," he said. "It's kind of crazy that you can go to sleep and everything's fine and you wake up and it's all havoc."
