Student caught with gun at Detroit school

Detroit Public Schools spokeswoman says student brought gun to Durfee, did not make threats

DETROIT – A handgun was confiscated from a student Friday at Detroit's Durfee Elementary-Middle School.

School leaders immediately alerted parents that all students and staff were safe, said Detroit Public Schools spokeswoman Jennifer Mrozowski.

The student, who made no threats to any students or staff at the school, has been taken into custody and faces expulsion.

Mrozowski said parents will be updated while the matter is investigated.
