Two elderly woman were killed when a gunman opened fire at a high-rise senior center in southwest Detroit

DETROIT – Two women are dead after a shooting at a senior complex in southwest Detroit.

According to Detroit Police, 65-year-old Mike Reda was in a verbal argument with one of the victims after they ended their relationship.  Reda was armed with an assault rifle, and opened fire.

A witness says Reda was drinking earlier in the day, and almost hit more bystanders when he started shooting.

Reda and both deceased women are residents of the senior complex on W. Vernor Highway near Dix Street.

Police surrounded the area when they arrived on scene because Reda barricaded himself in the building.  Reda has since been taken into police custody.

Hank Winchester will report live on this situation Sunday night on Local 4 News at 11 p.m.
