Woman's body found in water at Detroit's Rouge Park

Body found in water near Rouge Park horse stables on Detroit's west side

DETROIT – Detroit police confirmed a woman's body was found Wednesday in water at Rouge Park.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's office confirmed it is the body of a white female.

Detroit police were investigating. No other information was released.

Local 4 has learned the body was found behind the Rouge Park horse stables by a man and his son who were looking for turtles in the water. At about 1:30 p.m., they saw what appeared to be a headless body floating in about 3.5 feet of water.

The man, Anthony McGeary, called 911.

"It's heartbreaking. I mean, it's somebody's daughter, mom, sister," McGeary said. "It's just disturbing, to say the least."

McGeary said the body was partially clothed and badly decaying.

Police had not officially identified the body.
