Women robbed, assaulted after car breaks down in Detroit

Victims driving home from Detroit club when car stalls on I-75, McNichols Road

DETROITInterstate I-75 in Detroit is a bustling and busy freeway, but not at 2:30 a.m.

Two women were assaulted and robbed after their car broke down on the Interstate early Monday morning.

The victims told Michigan State Police they were driving home from a jazz club in Detroit when their car stalled on the side of Northbound I-75 just North of McNichols Road.

The women say a vehicle slowed down and pulled in front of their car on the shoulder.

"When they got outside to check to see if it was something to do with the engine or the tires, individuals stopped in a black color SUV," said Lt. Mike Shaw from the Michigan State Police.

The women thought the three men who got out were good Samaritans stopping to help, but that wasn't the case.

Instead two of the men lunged at one victim before pushing her to the ground. The third man grabbed the second victims and took her purse.

Before the men got back into their car and drove away, they grabbed the other woman's purse as well.

"There's nothing wrong with sitting in your car and calling 911. State Police will come out there and we have courtesy patrols on the freeways that will come out there and then you will know that somebody is actually going to help you ," said Shaw.
