DETROIT – An alternate juror has been removed from the corruption trial of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Edmunds on Wednesday announced the dismissal of alternate juror No. 5. Edmunds didn't offer an explanation except that the juror had been excused.

This is the second juror this week who has been let off the jury. A woman, juror No. 4, was let go on Tuesday.
Kilpatrick, whose mother is former U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, was elected mayor in 2001. He resigned in 2008 and pleaded guilty to obstructing justice by lying in a civil case about having sex with an aide. He subsequently served 14 months in prison for violating his probation in that case.
Kilpatrick's pal Bobby Ferguson, Kilpatrick's father and Detroit's former water boss are also on trial.
