SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The price of gas across Metro Detroit is soaring, again.
In just the past week, motorists have seen gasoline prices jump more than 20 cents. For example, at the Shell gas station on 8 Mile Road in Southfield paying with credit really will cost drivers.
"I hate that I have to pay so much because I don't have any cash on me. It's $4.45 and that's too much right now," said one driver.

AAA of Michigan says issue at several Midwest refineries are to blame for the sudden price increase. Low supplies and facility problems are what's driving up costs.
In Metro Detroit, the average for one gallon of unleaded gas is $4.19. That's a little less than the state average but far more than the national rate which is about $3.64.
The pain at the pump is causing some drivers to cut corners just to fuel up.
"I try to make sure I have food so I can eat at home. Honestly, I'm walking to certain places close by so I don't have to drive so I don't have to spend as much," said on driver.
