Strong thunderstorms make way through Metro Detroit

DETROIT – Strong thunderstorms are moving through Metro Detroit.

The storms moved in rapidly Wednesday evening, hitting Wayne and Oakland counties about 5 p.m.

Local 4Casters say the storms, which have dumped pea-sized hail on several Metro Detroit communities, were moving out over Lake St. Clair by 6:20 p.m. More storms with heavy rain moved in Wednesday night.

Rain is expected to fall throughout the night and into Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service reminds everyone to stay away from high objects such as trees and seek shelter in a sturdy structure until the storms pass.

SE Michigan counties under flood watch

Several southeast Michigan counties have been placed under flood watches. The following is the list of affected counties:

- Lapeer County
- Genesee County
- St. Clair County

The NWS says the flood watches will continue until Friday morning.
