Macomb County deputy's sharp eye nabs suspected pharmacy robber

Deputy recognizes driver from security tape as suspect in Washington Township robbery

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A suspected pharmacy robber has been arrested thanks to a very alert Macomb County deputy.

On Sept. 19, a man in knit cap and a scarf covering his face robbed the Cornerstone Medical Group building on Van Dyke in Washington Township with a knife -- at one point threatening a customer with it.

He got away with a bottle of pills.

The robber and the SUV he was in, a 2000 Ford Explorer, was caught on tape by a nearby business' security cameras.

On Wednesday, Deputy Adnan Durrani stopped an SUV that was on Van Dyke near the pharmacy because it matched the description of the one that had been used in the pharmacy robbery.

Durrani was one of the original deputies who responded to the robbery scene and recognized the SUV's driver as a man who also matched the description of the robber. The suspect was taken in for questioning.

The suspect, Thomas Moore, 27, of Bruce Township, has been charged with armed robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon.

He was arraigned Thursday and remains in the Macomb County Jail on a $400,000 bond.

He's due back in court in October.
