MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 67-year-old Macomb Township man is charged with trying to pay a 14-year-old girl to have sex with him.

The incident happened at 1:11 p.m. on Blueridge Drive, where the girl was working at a lemonade stand with some friends during a neighborhood garage sale.

The man pulled up to the lemonade stand in a white Town and Country type van and asked the girl if she wanted $40 for sex, police say. The girl ran into the home and told her mom, who ran outside and approached the man.

Police say the suspect tried to speed away. But a man and woman attending the garage sale saw the interaction and felt that something was wrong. When the girl ran into their home, they got into their SUV and chased the suspect down the street, boxing him in until police arrived.

Pal Rakaj was arrested Friday and is charged with accosting children for immoral purposes, which is a four-year felony. He was given a $100,000 cash bond and lodged in the Macomb County Jail. He was arraigned on Monday.

Police say the suspect fits the description of other stranger danger complaints they've gotten all over Macomb County. The investigation is ongoing.
