Macomb Twp. woman charged in death of husband

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Macomb Township woman was charged Saturday morning in the death of her husband.

Julie Kay Chimelak, 61, was charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, and felony firearm.

The shooting occurred Wednesday around 4:30 p.m. at their home on the 20200 block Nicol Creek Drive.

Chimelak had called police and said she had accidentally shot her husband, Ronald George Chimelak.

Deputies found him lying on his back on the floor in a room of the condominium. It appeared that he had been shot once in the chest. Julie Chimelak was kneeling next to him and was attempting to perform CPR.

Deputies intervened and attempted life-saving measures. Ronald Chimelak was taken to Henry Ford Macomb  Hospital where we succumbed to his injuries. He was 75.

A Smith & Wesson .357 caliber revolver was recovered from a bedroom of the home.

Julie Chimelak was given a $750,000 cash-or-surety bond. She remains in the Macomb County Jail.

She is due to appear again in court Monday for formal arraignment.
