Major Plymouth streets to be plowed throughout weekend

Extreme temperatures rendering salt ineffective

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – The City of Plymouth Department of Municipal Services Snow and Ice Control Teams have been working throughout the weekend with an emphasis on plowing major streets prior to putting down salt. The extreme temperatures cause the road salt to re-freeze quickly and have little effect on driving conditions.

All major streets in the city, including Main Street, Ann Arbor Trail, Penniman and Starkweather, are open, plowed and salted. However, the Municipal Services Team does recommend that drivers leave plenty of distance between their car and the car in front of them when driving.

Plymouth reminds drivers not to crowd snow plows on the streets. Snow plow operators have many things going on in the cab of their truck and if you get too close they will not be able to see you in their mirrors.

All scheduled activities in the city of Plymouth are on as scheduled, including open skating indoors at the Plymouth Cultural Center and shopping in the downtown area. Remember to plan ahead and leave plenty of time for travel.
