TROY, Mich. -

A 28-year-old Ecorse man has been arrested on a charge of felonious assault for allegedly stabbing a friend outside the Somerset Mall.

Troy police said Mario Terrell Ridgeway was at the mall Monday with four other friends when he got into a fight with one of them over money. Ridegway allegedly first stabbed the victim in the back then stabbed him twice more as he tried to run away.

Ridgeway was arrested and police said they found a bloody folding knife in his pants pocket.

Ridgeway was arraigned Wednesday. His bond was set at $50,000.

Background from police:

Ridgeway and the four others had gone to the mall to buy iPhones at the Apple store. One of them had planned to provide the money for them.

Police said the group told them they had all taken turns driving to the mall because none of them had a valid license.

Police said the group's plan was to sign up for phone plans and then be able to purchase the iPhones for $199 -- to be re-sold later at a much higher price.

Only one of the subjects qualified to buy a phone, so he bought four of them.  After the purchase was completed, the group left the mall together and that's when the argument between Ridgeway and the victim broke out.
