Man charged in connection with 3-year-old's shooting

3-year-old Detroit boy accidentally shot himself in the foot

DETROIT – A 24-year-old Detroit man is facing charges in connection with a 3-year-old boy's self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The boy was hospitalized after accidentally shooting himself in his foot Thursday morning.  Dearres Freeman identified the boy as his nephew, Marcell Dukes. Marcell is expected to recover.

24-year-old Marcus Jareno Allen was arraigned early Saturday.  He is facing charges of second degree child abuse, felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearm charges.

Police say Allen was visiting a woman at her home located in the 20000 block of Forrer in in Detroit. Allen allegedly brought the handgun that was found by Dukes.

Freeman told Local 4 he was getting ready for work inside his home on Forrer Street -- where he lives with his mother, sister and her two children -- when he heard a "pop."

"I don't know whose gun it is. It all just happened so fast," Freeman said. "He wasn't crying or anything. He took it like a big boy."
