Man charged in deadly hit-and-run on Greenview Avenue in Detroit

Witnesses say 27-year-old LaDon Grice was getting out of her own car when she was struck

DETROIT – A 28-year-old Detroit man is charged in connection to a deadly hit-and-run which happened Aug. 17 in the 7600 block of Greenview Avenue.

Jimmie Lee Jackson is accused of speeding down Greenview Avenue in a friend's car and striking 27-year-old LaDon Grice, who was standing in the street near the driver's side door of her own car. Witnesses said she was getting out of her car.

Grice was thrown 30 feet from the vehicle, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. She later died at a hospital.

Jackson is accused of not stopping. Witnesses said they thought he had a change of heart when he came back minutes later, but they were wrong.

"He said, 'She shouldn't have been in the (expletive) street.' She was never in the street. She was getting out of the car. She didn't even get her other leg out of the car," said Grice's friend, Adrienne Young.

Jackson is charged with reckless driving causing death, failure to stop at an at-fault accident causing death, operating with license suspended, revoked of denied causing death and operating with license suspended, revoked or denied.
