Man charged in Farmington Hills deadly punch case now charged with DUI

Dante Nederveld finds trouble while out on bond

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man who is set to stand trial for allegedly killing another man with a punch has been arrested on the suspicion of drunken driving in Redford Township.

Dante Nederveld, 37, is charged with manslaughter after allegedly punching Matthew Lee Wegzyn, 52, on Aug. 9 while Wegzyn was talking to police about a complaint he had regarding Nederveld's driving in the Flamingo mobile home park -- where they both lived -- in Farmington Hills.

Wegzyn fell and hit his head on the pavement. He was hospitalized for almost a month before he passed away.

Nederveld was bound over for trial earlier this month.

While out on bond, Nederveld was arrested this week in Redford Township and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle while his license is suspended. He's also charged as a habitual offender. He's now being held on a $500,000 cash bond.

Police said Nederveld suffered cuts to his head and face because he was moving around so much in the back seat of the police car.
