Man charged in Farmington Hills robbery, jump from 2nd-story window

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – A man is charged with armed robbery after, police say, he broke into a Farmington Hills apartment on Monday where got into a struggle with the resident before jumping out a second-story window and fleeing in the resident's Cadillac Escalade.

Mark Steiner, 56, of Oakland Township, was arrested later that day after another resident at the Hunters Ridge apartment complex saw him trying to enter a garage door, police said.

Police say Steiner was armed a BB gun and a knife when he broke into the apartment about 4:15 a.m. Monday. The resident awoke to noises and confronted the intruder. There was a struggle before the invader jumped out a second-story window. He drove away in the Escalade, which later was recovered in the same apartment complex.

Both the BB and knife were recovered from the apartment. The resident was not injured, and neither was the robber despite his jump.

Steiner is charged with armed robbery, home invasion 1st degree and assault with a dangerous weapon. He was arraigned Wednesday and is being held on a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to be back in court on Friday for his preliminary examination conference.
