Man charged in sexual assault at Detroit apartments now charged with separate arson

DETROIT – A man who is facing charges in connection with a sexual assault at a Detroit apartment building that ended up burning to the ground has now been charged in a separate arson.

Carlos Love, 22, was charged last week with first-degree criminal sexual conduct for the March 5 incident involving a 19-year-old at Jason Manor apartments.

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy announced Monday that he's charged with arson, preparation to burn property for a fire that happened Oct. 4 at a house in the 19600 block of Rogge Street.

Love allegedly poured gas around several areas of the house before he was spotted by a neighbor, who then called police.

Firefighters had to put out several fires around the house, which were later ruled arson. Love has not been charged in connection with the arson at the Jason Manor apartments.

Firefighters rescued about 25 people from the 41-unit building, while others jumped from windows to safety.
