Man charged in slaying of Detroit Uber driver to face trial

DETROIT – A 23-year-old man charged in the fatal shooting of an Uber driver in Detroit will face trial on a murder charge and other crimes.

A judge on Thursday said there's enough evidence to send Dajuan Watson to trial in the death of Modou Diagne.

Watson is charged with felony murder, armed robbery, intent to deliver heroin, and felony firearms.

Police in March found Diagne inside an SUV on Detroit's west side, a victim of many gunshot wounds. Prosecutors say Watson had requested that the Uber driver pick him up and then shot him during an altercation.

Uber drivers carry no cash, but his phone was stolen.

Diagne came from his native Senegal to Detroit and had been driving for Uber for the past three years to support his wife and children.

Watson will be arraigned May 5 at 9 a.m.
