Suspect's DNA retrieved from victims home, authorites say

Keith Brown accused of sexual assault and home invasion, arraigned Monday.

PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich – A man accused of breaking into a woman's apartment and sexually assaulting her this past spring has been charged.

The assault was reported in the 4800 block of Washtenaw Avenue in Pittsfield Township.  According to authorities, the victim, 23, opened her apartment door after hearing a knock from Brown. Brown entered the apartment, slapped the victim and told her to take him to her bedroom, where he sexually assaulted her, prosecutors said. He fled the scene after taking money from the home, authorities said. 

The Michigan State Police forensic science laboratory examined DNA taken from the victim’s apartment, which led to Brown’s identification as a suspect, authorities said.  

Brown is charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of first-degree home invasion and one count of unarmed robbery. 

A probable cause hearing is scheduled Oct. 11 and a preliminary examination is scheduled on Oct 18.
