Man escapes Roseville house fire, warns neighbors

Fire breaks out early Monday morning at home on Mayflower Street

ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A Roseville man in his 70s escaped his burning home early Monday morning and rushed to warn his neighbors, too.

The fire started around 4 a.m. on Mayflower Street, near 13 Mile and Hayes roads.

Neighbors said the man knocked on their doors to wake them up.

"Oh, it was horrible. It was red, yellow and a little bit of blue flame," neighbor Pamela Boufford said. "My husband ran out the door and I'm trying to get some socks on and something warm on to get outside. My husband tried to get him out of the house. He was going to go back inside for his dog and cat."

The man wasn't able to save his dog and cat. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Fire officials on the scene said the cause of the fire is still being investigated, but it appears it started in the living room.

The home is a total loss.
