DETROIT – A man charged with shooting a 7-year-old boy in Detroit last year was sentenced Feb. 16 to four and a half to 10 years in prison.
Torrey Craft was charged with two counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, carrying a dangerous weapon and felony firearm.

Craft turned himself in to police after the Aug. 16 shooting in the 3600 block of Fairview Street on Detroit's east side.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Craft had argument Aug. 15 with relatives of the mother of his 4-year-old daughter after they refused to let him into their home. Craft returned the next day to the housing complex and fired shots in the direction of the same relatives, striking the boy in the thigh, authorities said.
The boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
"We got a phone call that the suspect, his name is Torrey Craft, and his girlfriend lives at this location and they got into an argument yesterday -- girlfriend, boyfriend drama," Detroit police Deputy Chief Renee Hall said. "He threatened to come back. He made good on his threat. When he came back he fired a shot."
Police said there are bullet casings from two different weapons at the scene. Hall said an assault rifle was used in the shooting, as well as a .40 caliber which fired at least seven shots.
