Man found shot to death outside Macomb Township home

76-year-old in custody in connection with shooting on Lone Pine Lane

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 31-year-old Detroit man was found shot to death Monday morning outside a Macomb Township home.

Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said deputies found the victim about 9 a.m. when they responded to a 911 call about a shooting in the 45000 block of Lone Pine Lane. Multiple gunshots were reported.

Wickersham said the victim's body was found lying in the snow in front of a home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 76-year-old man is in custody.

Wickersham held a news conference later Monday morning, revealing the 31-year-old man had been dating the 76-year-old man's granddaughter. She and her three children -- the oldest is 11 years old -- were living at the home with the 76-year-old man (her grandfather) and her grandmother. The 31-year-old man is the father of all three children.

Wickersham said the victim's girlfriend, all three kids and the girlfriend's grandmother (the 76-year-old's wife) were in the home at the time of the shooting. They called 911 after hearing multiple gunshots.

"We're talking to the other family members. We're trying to get a sense of what might have been going on in all of their relationships, and what may have caused this event that happened this morning," said Wickersham.

The Sheriff said the 76-year-old man was found standing next to the victim's body. He is not cooperating with deputies, Wickersham said.

The Sheriff plans to present this case to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office on Tuesday.
