BROWNSTOWN CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 19-year-old Lincoln Park man was killed Friday night when he was hit by a car while walking across I-75 following a car crash, according to authorities.

Michigan State Police say the man was involved in a two-car crash on northbound I-75 near Sibley Road and pulled over to the shoulder of the freeway. The man pulled his car onto the left shoulder of the highway and the other driver involved in the crash pulled over on the right shoulder of the freeway, police say.

Witnesses told police the man kept crossing the freeway between the cars involved in the accident to check on the driver of the car on the right shoulder. The man was hit by another car, driven by a woman from Virginia who was visiting Michigan with her family.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Investigation shows that alcohol may have been a factor in his decision to walk into traffic.

The driver who hit the man voluntarily agreed to be tested for the presence of alcohol or drugs in her system.

I-75 was closed for around two hours while troopers investigated the scene.
