Man killed in hit-and-run at 8 Mile, I-75 in Hazel Park

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – A 58-year-old Warren man was killed in a hit-and-run Wednesday night when he was walking east on 8 Mile Road at the Chrysler Service Drive.

Hazel Park police say the man, Harry Wilhelm, was crossing the road with the right-of-way about 7 p.m. when a GMC Sierra pickup truck failed to stop at a red light and struck him.

The pickup truck also ran over Wilhelm. The driver stopped briefly but fled the area on southbound Interstate 75.

The suspect's vehicle is described as a 1994-1996 GMC Sierra 1500 or 3500 with an extended cab. It is dark in color with silver "GMC" on the tailgate. It sustained damage to its headlight area.

Police do not have a description of the driver.
