Man missing in Rouge River in Dearborn

Search will resume Wednesday for man who went into river

DEARBORN, Mich. – Dive teams are expected to resume searching for a man in the Rouge River in Dearborn on Wednesday.

Witnesses told police they saw two people in the water about 2 p.m. Tuesday behind the Henry Ford Estate, which is off Fair Lane Drive just west of Evergreen Road. A 23-year-old Dearborn Heights woman was pulled from the water, but the search is on for a man.

He is described as Asian and was wearing a white and blue striped shirt and tan pants. Local 4 has learned he is a University of Michigan-Dearborn graduate student, according to a professor of his.

The woman was taken to a hospital. Local 4 is told she is OK.

Police said someone called about 1:54 p.m. to report a man and woman struggling in the river. Both were calling for help. Police do not know how the two fell into the water.

Due to the afternoon storms, the river is moving swiftly. The area behind the Ford Estate has paths along the water which are open to the public. Police were searching the pathways and bridges.

The Downriver and Wayne County dive teams both were searching. The U.S. Coast Guard also was on site.
