Man robbed, shot in back on 8 Mile Road

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A man was shot in the back Thursday morning after he was robbed on the border of Detroit and Southfield.

The victim, 62-year-old Kenneth Neeley, was walking in the area of 8 Mile and Berg roads when he was approached by a man with a handgun. The man demanded money and pistol-whipped Neeley who was forced to lie on the ground. 

One shot was fired and Neeley was hit the back.

Neeley was able to walk to the Marathon gas station across the street.

A gas station clerk called police at about 4:30 a.m. and gave the Neeley medical attention.

Neeley was taken to Botsford Hospital and is recovering.

The shooter fled in a red or burgundy pickup truck westbound on 8 Mile Road. He was described as black, 6 feet tall, in his 40s, medium build with a short beard. He was wearing a grey and black jumpsuit with a hooded sweatshirt, black shoes and black gloves.

Detroit and Southfield police are investigating.
